I beg to differ with you on your conclusion about Hoover. He did what was, actually, the right thing - left the economy alone. It was FDR who messed things up by using the Depression to his political advantage to get into office. The economy was recovering very nicely, thank you, without FDR and his New Deal before he even got into office. FDR gave us the beginnings of the current welfare-state that we are now unable to extricate ourselves from. We have gone from “he who does not work shall not eat” to “he who does not work gets a hand-out and incentive to not work.” We are fast becoming a socialist economy.
    Sad.
